A block is a box of content that can be placed in a region of a page. You can use Contexts to determine what conditions cause a block to display, and you can also create your own blocks with custom content.
To enable a block for a particular area of your site, you will need to use a context. Click here to see an example of adding a block to the groups directory page using a context.
To add a custom block, begin by going to Administer > Site Building > Blocks
Click the Add box in the subnavigation:
Fill in the form, adding a description, title, body and machine name. Then click the Save button.
Next, follow the instructions on using contexts to display a block. When you get to the section where you select the block to display, find your custom block under the Boxes section:
Keep following the instructions and you'll see your custom block added to the groups directory page.
